Jane Goodall: Roots & Shoots

Dr. Jane Goodall, world renowned primatologist, was a guest on the KPFK Aware Show yesterday (Los Angeles). Ms. Goodall is known as the "messenger of peace," and her contributions to the field of primatology have been profound. Through her institution, she promotes hope, understanding and partnerships, such as the Roots & Shoots program. Here, young people are encouraged to learn and care about animals, the environment and the human community by getting involved in projects that make a positive difference in our world. Her belief: "Knowledge leads to compassion."

On Saturday, September 30th, Dr. Goodall will be at:

Roots & Shoots Day of Peace Celebration
Griffith Park, Los Angeles

Goodbye summer, hello fall...

I had great hopes of sharing a recipe (with picture) today, but life intervened with more pressing issues.

Here in Southern California, we're soaking in warm days as cool nights tiptoe in. Around my neighborhood pumpkins are beginning to dot some front yards. A bit early, but a festive reminder of what's to come.

To those who relish fall...enjoy the handprint that this season makes; one rich with color and crisp with promise. Here is a poem to honor today's autumnal equinox:

Gilded Skies

Fall pulls down the shade on summer
as it stretches our shadows, shortens
our days and cools our air.

But determined to take its last stand,
the piecing sun still rallies forth,
toasting leaves to pumpkin orange
and pomegranate red in a show of
heated glory.

This autumnal sky, though filled with
fire, waves goodbye on its horizontal
descent, passing from one season to
another in a slow farewell, honeyed
hues sprawling like a shawl across the
land--a gilded spell cast on those below.

Greetings and welcome to my blog!

This is a new endeavor for me, so join me for the ride as I share my musings with you. These might include tangents in multiple directions, though I'm especially prone to sudden bursts of inspiration when it comes to food, cooking and trying new recipes. My husband--my resident photographer--will take pictures of dishes that I'd like to post for your viewing.

As a blogger, I'll use this forum to offer tips, insights, exciting finds etc. on a variety of topics. Or, I may share my thoughts on any of life's offerings, which can, as we all know, be simple or complex, poignant or profound.

Thanks for visiting, and do drop by from time to time.

Cheers,
Sarojni
